Background to the Southport Community Energy Study

Ed Gommon of Zero Carbon Liverpool City Region.  raised funding for the initial feasibility and early development through the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF), managed by the NW Zero Carbon Hub,

Further funding for the next stage of development is being sought from the Liverpool City Region.

Capital funding will be raised through a share offer, supported by loans if necessary.  Shareholders will become members of Southport Community Energy.

Southport Community Energy is a registered society, registration number 8918

The Sefton Climate Action group have given the project their support and many local members have been active, particularly in getting the questionnaire circulated.

The feasibility work is being led by Sharenergy, a co-operative who only work on Community Energy,

Locogen have been employed as planning consultants,

Avian ecology are undertaking bird surveys of the site,

Support is being given by David Tudgey of Community Power Solutions who was involved in getting permission for a 4.2MW wind turbine at Lawrence Weston in Bristol.
